Do you know that something good can always comes out of something bad? Remember, if you’re going through hell, just keep on moving forward before the devil even knows you’re there. It doesn’t matter what you may be going through, something good will comes out of it.

This blog isn’t actually about that, so to speak; since I have a blog out there on that that subject. Instead, I’m going to be talking about celebrities that originated from North Dakota. I mean, it’s rare but there are some celebrity who came from North Dakota. I mean, North Dakota may still be in the stone age with somethings. North Dakota is definitely a cheap state. North Dakota is so cheap that when birds fly over they go cheap cheap. North Dakota is one of the fly over state.

Have you ever been asked, “Where the hell is North Dakota?” Some people when they hear of North Dakota, they think of Minnesota. North Dakota is flat and built on a lake bottom, Lake Glacier; which covered a large part of eastern North Dakota Dakota, Minnesota, and Manitoba. My step dad would say, “if you build on a lake bottom, be prepared to get flooded.”

Even though Teddy Roosevelt wasn’t from North Dakota, he loved coming to the state. Teddy Roosevelt was captivated by the badlands of North Dakota. I mean, I can’t see the beauty in the state of North Dakota. Minnesota and Wisconsin is more beautiful.

The famous western writer, Louis L’Amour was born in Jamestown, North Dakota. Who haven’t read his novel as a child? He’s as famous as Laura Ingalls Wilder. I grew up on his Western, wishing I should have been a cowboy as a child.

The most famous baseball player from North Dakota is Roger Maris; who was raised in Fargo, North Dakota. There is an exhibit for Roger Maris at West Acres. He ended up with ALS; which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It’s a muscular disease, that is a fatal nervous system disease that gradually destroys the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

People I’ll be mentioning are people before the oil boom hits North Dakota and before NDSU Bison made a name for themselves on ESPN.

Who grew up going to grandma and she would have Lawrence Welk on TV? I grew up watching Lawrence Welk over at grandma’s house.

Did you know that Lawrence Welk was from North Dakota? Lawrence Welk was born March 11, 1903 in Strasburg, ND. He was famous for champagne music, waltz; which is a progressive smooth ballroom and folk dance, and the accordion, a box shaped, free reed musical instrument powered by a hand operated bellows that pushes and pulls air past internal metal reeds to create sound.

Who remember dancing the waltz in high school gym class? Do they still teach that in school? Boys hated dancing the waltz in school. It was uncomfortable but something that must be taught before we grew up and get out in the real world. I grew up dancing the waltz and one time as a child I dance with an older colored woman.

I also grew up listening to the accordion being played. I had a great Uncle who would play the accordion.

Lynn Anderson, famous the song, “Rose Garden,” was born September 26, 1947 in Grand Forks, ND. Her mother Liz Anderson. Her mother, Liz Anderson was also a country singer. She was born January 13, 1927 in Roseau, MN. Lynn Anderson had performed on the Lawrence Welk show. Lynn Anderson wasn’t related to Bill Anderson; even though they would joke about being kissing cousins.

Angie Dickinson was born September 30, 1931 from Kulm, ND. She’s 94 years old. Her most famous role was “Police Woman.” She was also in “Rio Bravo.” She was also in Big Bad Mama. Frank Sinatra was the love of her life. She was a sex symbol back in her prime.

Josh Duhamel was born November 14, 1972 in Minot, ND. He was married to Fergie from Black Eye Peas. He got his start in daytime television, All My Children. and was also in Las Vegas. He’s probably the most famous star from North Dakota.

Even though Paulette Carlson wasn’t from North Dakota, She was famous back when I was in high school because of her band Highway 101. She was born October 11, 1952, in Northfield, MN. She started performing in dance bars in Fargo. Those from Hawley, remembers her well because of her connection to Hawley, MN.

After NDSU Bison became famous because of ESPN, we had such stars as Carson Wentz. He wasn’t the first Quarterback from NDSU though. Phil Hansen played for NDSU Bison and then Defensive end for the Buffalo Bills.

Blind Joe was born July 14, 1982 in Fargo, ND. He got his start on The Voice. He’s blind.

Jonny Lang, a Blues singer was born January 29, 1982 in Fargo, ND.

These are just some stars who came from North Dakota. It goes to show that even North Dakota can have famous people living their state. So you see, something good can come from something bad, so to speak.
