I knew you when

When a person has a near-death experience, it usually results in a significant change in them. If someone has a life-changing event that cause them to a complete makeover, some people may have a hard time to accept the new person you had become. They may think that it’s stage.

If a person somehow hit it big, they too could go through a major life change and become a different person as well, such as winning the lottery or whatever.

You may have heard someone say, “I’ve changed your diaper or wipe your tears from your eyes.”

I remembered someone saying to me, “I remembered when you were a child when you first came to a certain church; now look at you.”

I remembered when I first met Rick Berg, back in 1984 when I was going to NDSU and was a college Republican and he was running for State Representative in that district. He was a whole different person back then. It seems that the money and power went to his head. Back then, he was someone I felt that I could hang out with. I met people of different culture and society back then. That was the first time, I had Spinach dip as well. I was able to experience different kinds of food that I hadn’t eaten growing up such as Spinach dip and brussel sprouts.

Let me give you a little background of Rick Berg, for those who don’t know him or never even met him before he hit it big.

Rick Berg is 65 years old and a former House of Representative member. He is also an owner of Goldmark, a rental place. He was born in Maddock, ND, Aug 16, 1959. He was raised on a farm in Hettinger. His father was a large animal veterinarian and his mother was a writer. His grandfather immigrated from Norway. He went to college on a wrestling scholarship. He earned a degree in agricultural economics. In 1982,after college he co-founded Midwest Management Company, which later became Goldmark Property Management in 1994, a real estate management firm in Fargo.

When I met him, he first ran for the North Dakota House of Representative in 1984 in the 10th House District based in Fargo. He was there until his congressional run in 2010. He briefly served as speaker of the House and became the House majority leader. He supported privatize Social Security. He proposed making abortion a class AA felony, even in the case of rape and incest.

When he was in the US House of Representative, he voted with Paul Ryan to restructure Medicare and Medicaid. Working with Paul Ryan was one of Rick Berg biggest mistake, since Paul Ryan was a Rhino Republican from Wisconsin.

When he chose to run for US House of Representative, I voted and supported him on the fact that I had helped him get his start in politics. You could say, I create a monster back in 1984, so to speak. I didn’t look at his business dealing with Goldmark. Goldmark Property Management has a bad reputation in Fargo as not being very trustworthy to rent from. They were busy buying up property and they owned many businesses in Fargo. You could say that I was loyal to him; which is one of my downfall in trusting people. It didn’t dawn on me how he had changed because of years in government and the power and wealth had gone to his head. When he decided to run for Senate after only 1 term in the US House of Representative, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for him for Senator. I felt that he only did it for the power and not for the people of North Dakota. It was then that I knew that he had changed from the person I had known back in 1984. The money and power had gone to his head. He had forgotten where he had came from.

Just like when I met Mitch McConnell, when he came to Moorhead, Minnesota to help Bob Dole run for President in 1996 against President Bill Clinton. Mitch McConnell has been a Senator since then. He has been a Senator so long that he lost track of what the people wanted. He became a Rhino Republican. He was a different person back then but since then the money and power had gone to his head.

There are people who seems to forget where they came from and become too big for their britches. They seems to get above their raising. They think that they are so much better since they have money and power. As my mother would say about people who thinks highly of themselves, “they think that their shit doesn’t stink but their farts give them away.” People like that, I can’t stand being around.

It seems that some people when they become famous, they get this entitlement issue thinking that they deserves special treatment. Such as when Mikey Hoeven said, “You know who I am.” Since she said that, I lost respect for Senator John Hoeven.

Much the same way when Reese Witherspoon said to the police, “You know who I am.” They are using their fame, money and power to influence just because they feels that they feel that they are entitled to it.

When Justin Bieber came to the Fargo Dome for a concert, he brought his own hot tub to put in his locker room. He was also very rude the staff of the Fargo Dome while he was there. He wanted special treatment because who he was.

There are some who doesn’t seems to haven’t forgotten where they came from and the little people. I remembered when Luke Bryan came to the Fargo Dome. I will cherish the time as when I was in the process of going up to tear down his stage, he was getting off the stage. He gave everyone a high 5. He was so down-to-earth. I appreciate that in him.

Some may think that I’m jealous but the fact is that some people seems to forget where they came from and think of themselves better than the rest of us. Some people get above their raising. They are not very humble and feels entitled to things because of who they are.

I don’t know about you but I feel more comfortable around a better class of losers. The kind of people who doesn’t think so highly of themselves.

I don’t know if Rick Berg remembered me; but I remembered him before the money and power went to his head. When I have seen him few years ago, I don’t think he did remembered me by the look on his face when he saw me. He just acted like a big shot, looking down on me.

If I ever hit it big,I hope that I don’t become like that. I have no respect for people like that. They think that their shit don’t stink but their farts give them away. They thumb their nose at the lower class of people. Even though, I know people in high places, I’ve got friends in low places.

Do you know someone before they made it big? Have they forgotten where they came from?
