Top TV Dads

I know I’m late with this Father’s Day blog but I somehow got the date mixed-up, so sorry. As I rated the top TV mothers for Mother’s Day blog, I will do the same with TV dads. Some of the top TV dads may surprised you a little. You may wondered why they are on the list because of the stars reputation. No one is perfect! As my mother would say, “If I was perfect, I be in heaven rather than hell on earth.

The #1 TV dad goes to Bill Cosby from the Cosby Show. To some this may come as a shock; because just few years ago, Bill Cosby was falsely accused of raped by women wanting not just money but to make a name for themselves. If you ever watched the Cosby Show or even saw his Saturday morning cartoons, you’ll understand why he is #1, despite of the scandal.

At the #2 spot, it goes to Mike Brady, portrayed by Robert Reed. He would of had the #1 spot but Bill Cosby took it away. Once again, another surprised for you. Robert Reed held a dark secret while filming the Brady Bunch. That secret was, he was a homosexual; even though he was married and had a daughter of his own. I picked him because I grew up on the Brady Bunch and wished my family was more like the Brady Bunch.

Coming in at #3 goes to Charles Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie. He was portrayed by Michael Landon. He didn’t set a perfect example in real life; but his portrayal of Charles Ingalls made him top TV dads. He also had a role model himself in our #4 TV dads. That goes to Lorne Greene from Bonanza. Michael Landon worked with Lorne Greene on Bonanza; so he learned from one of the best. Lorne Greene was so good at playing a father type role, that he played similar roles later on in life.

Another surprise comes in at #5 goes to Alan Thicke from Growing Pains. His character on Growing Pains made him a good role model; even though he may lived up to it off the show. He was married to actress/singer Gloria Loring from Days of our Lives. They even co-wrote songs together some for TV shows. They had sons together as well. One of their son is Robin Thicke; who is splitting image of Alan Thicke.

At #6, it goes to Tim Allen. Some people in Hollywood may not approve because he is a Conservative Republican; but he was able to play a father very well on Home Improvement and later on with Last Man Standing. He also had criminal past before making it big as a comedian, TV, and movie star.

Now at #7 it goes to Ed O’Neill from Marriage with Children. Even though that show depict true family dysfunction; he was still able to make the list. Later on in life, he went to starred in Modern Family. His character on Modern Family had some similarity with Al Bundy. He was just perfect for that role.

Another surprised goes to Blake Carrington on Dynasty. He was portrayed by the late John Forsythe. You may go, ha, Blake was an oil tycoon, how can be a top TV dad. Well the answer is simple, he was also a family man who loved his children and his second wife, Krystal. He even loved is one son, Steven Carrington; who was gay. Now John Forsythe in the ’60’s starred in the “Bachelor Father;” which I don’t know much about. He also played the voice of Charlie in Charlie Angels. He comes in at #8.

At #9, comes Dick Van Patten from 8 is Enough. He was a family man on the show with 8 kids. A lot of kids for being made in the ’70’s and ’80’s

Rounding it off at is John Ritter from 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughters. That was his last show before he passed away.

I know we cannot forget Archie Bunker from All in the Family; even though his character was a bigot.

Who is your top TV dads? Do you agree with this list? Love to hear from you.
