Greatest Love Story

What is the greatest love story?

Some may say that Romeo and Juliet is one of the greatest love story. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare. He was widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist.

I have to admit that Romeo and Juliet is a great love story; but I’m not real big on it because of the old English is harder to comprehend than the American English. I had to recite a speech from Julius Caesar for Freshman English class in high school and that wasn’t fun.

Romeo and Juliet was banned from Florida school district due to it’s sexual content. They even tried to do that in North Dakota last year as well. Students will no longer be permitted to read many of Shakespear’s plays due to sexual content.

Who hasn’t read or performed in any Shakespear’s play back in high school? I mean, it’s a high school tradition. You shouldn’t deny our students the opportunity to learn a classic; that is one of the greatest love story.

Back when Shakespear wrote the play Romeo and Juliet in the 16th century, it was a time in which the role of women was not to be a person in their own rights, but to be a wife to their husband and a mother to their children. Back then the role of Juliet was portrayed by a young teenage boy rather than a woman. Now Christians today will frown upon that.

Then there was a movie starring the late Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw. The movie was “Love Story.” It was also one of the greatest love story in the last century. Ali MacGraw played a woman who was dying of cancer and a love interest for Ryan O’Neal’s character. One of the famous line from that movie was, “Love is never have to say you are sorry.”

Years later, that movie became real for Ryan O’Neal when the love of his life, Farrah Faucet came down with cancer and fought a long battle until her death. You could say that Ryan O’Neal lived that love story twice. Once in the movie and once in real life.

Just last year, Ryan O’Neal recently passed away. He is reunited with Farrah Faucet, the love of his life. They lived that love story.

Even though, Elvis and Priscilla marriage didn’t last, they had one of the greatest love story. Elvis loved Priscilla up to his death. He even tried to win her back. She loved him too and that was why she never remarried. She even wants to be buried beside him; even though they were divorce.

Before my folks were married, my step-dad entered the house in North Fargo, where my mother and I were living at the time. My mother thought it was romantic when he sat beside her while she was in bed, and said, “Marry me or you’ll never see me again?”

What do you think? Was it romantic? Was it a romantic proposal or just creepy?

When my mother shared that story and said that she felt that it was romantic, us kids just shook our heads in disbelief. They were married for 40 years before she passed away. Even though, I have gotten a dad and siblings out of it, I would tell my mother that it wasn’t very romantic. She should probably had said, “fine, see you!”

These were just few examples of the greatest love story ever written or told. Do you have your favorite love story? I would love to hear from.

This Valentine’s Day is a time to share and remember the greatest love story, either real or imagined.
