Getting away with lying

Lying is never good for a person to do; but sometimes lying can be the only way. It just seems more and more lately people are choosing to lie over telling the truth. They don’t want to hear the truth when it’s being told. They factcheck you or try to shut you down for speaking the truth. Sometimes, you are put in Facebook jail. If you are truthful, some will say that you are being hateful.

In this blog, I will give you 5 jobs that seems people get away with lying. Are they really lying or do they just believe that what they are saying is true? Are they lying to protect themselves or the innocence?

Number 5 jobs that people seems to get away with lying goes to the lawyers. This kind of make sense. If they are a defense attorney, they have to do whatever it takes to prove their clients innocent. They have make a good case for their client if they are any good at a being a lawyer.

A good example of this is the movie, “Liar, Liar.” In that movie, Jim Carrey plays a lawyer who is also a father. His young son made a wish that his father would not be able to tell a lie. The reason for that wish was because his father promised to be there for his son but never showed up; and it constantly happened. The boy was deeply upset and hurt because of it. He wanted his father around like all little boys do. Anyway, because of that wish, Jim Carrey’s character couldn’t properly do his job as a lawyer to defend his client. He was being truthful to every little things to the point of being hurtful not only to his client but to the judge and everyone else in the courtroom. It was a comedy, and Jim Carrey was perfect for that role.

Number 4 jobs that people seems to get away with lying is salesmen. As a salesperson, you have to do whatever it takes to sell a product to make a profit. The only way they make money is by how much sales they make. They work on incentives, not hourly like most people. The more they sell, the more they make. It doesn’t matter if you are a car salesman or whatever you are trying to sell.

An example of this is Cadillac Man. It starred the late Robin Williams as a car dealer who is spread thin financially as he is in his love life. He’s dating more women than he can remember, and the local toughs he’s borrowed money from want it back.

What goes along with salesperson is advertiser. They advertise a certain product but do they actually use that product. In other words, do they actually believe in the product they are trying to sell? They have to make the public believe in the product to make a sale to make a profit.

Just like when they offer a free meal or whatever just to get a person to come and check it out and possibility buy. Most recently, I went to a community day downtown Broadway after work because they offered free meal. Well to be honest, there was no free meal-no nothing. It was a joke set up by the mayor of Fargo, a bad joke at that. When they advertised free meal, they did it to get people downtown for community day on Broadway; which is false advertisement. Very much like salespeople!

Number 3 jobs that people seems to get away with lying is the meteorologist, or also known as the weatherman. This used to be #2 but you’ll see why they dropped to #3 and who took the #2 spot a little later.

With all their fancy equipment to forecast the weather, they still can’t get the weather straight. The old joke goes like this. If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change. They can’t seems to get the weather straight and you are caught holding the bag.

They pretty much the get the weather report from the same place but if you listen to different weather stations, each station has to put their own little twist in predicting the weather. I usually watched WDAY for the weather by John Wheeler. I’m not saying that he’s accurate but he seems to be closer than others. Even the weather app on your phone isn’t always accurate.

Number 2 jobs that people seems to get away with lying goes to the news media. They simply have stolen this title from the weatherman. They are slowly creeping up to #1 as well. It’s to the point that a person cannot believe the news being reported anymore. This is why they are known as fake news. They don’t report the news anymore; but rather tell what they want to tell, and not give you the facts, the truth.

When Walter Cronkite and Peter Jenning did the news, you could believe them. They had integrity. They have no integrity anymore. After Walter Cronkite retired and Dan Rather replaced him, was when news reporters had lost their integrity. Dan Rather became the father of fake news.

I can tell you this as fact because I’ve studied journalism when I went to college.

Can I get a drum roll please? The #1 job that people seems to get away with lying is the politicians. This comes as no surprise at all. Even though the news media is working hard and fast to take that title away from them as well. No wonder the American people have such a mistrust of our government and the politicians. Lying comes very easy for them. I don’t care if you are a Republican or a Democrat. They are very good at lying to the American people.

If you are not good at lying, my advise to you is do not get involved in politics. Politic is a dirty business, with no integrity for those involved. Those in Washington lies to the people just to get elected. They make campaign promises but never keep.

Like the song by Merle Haggard, “When a president goes to the White House and does what he says he will do. We all we’ll be eating rainbow stew and drinking that free bubble up.”

There you have it, my two-part blog on lying. If you agree with my top 5 choices of jobs that people seems to get away with lying, press the like. Is it alright to lie? Should a person lie or tell the truth even if it may hurt someone’s feelings?
